I just saw Team America and it was a total piece of shit. And considering I came in already loving it -- South Park, Puppets, Making fun of the US -- that's quite an achievement.

But then I learned that the movie wasn't making fun of the US, but of Jerry Bruckmeier.

And then I discovered that they were really blowing the puppets up.

And then I heard the line, "Shh. You had me at Dicks and Assholes."

But I didn't fall in love with this boring ass and not very funny movie until I watched the DVD Extra stuff about the making of, and now it is the coolest fucking movie I've seen in a long time. I mean holy shit those puppets and those explosions and those attitudes and that attention to detail and support of craft and fuck the actors.

I think maybe you should watch the making of first and then the movie, so you appreciate it. Those boys must have supported the entire marionette industry!

You need to watch it now, if only for a reminder on how contrariness and stick-to-itiveness can kick computer's asses, and that when you use the limitations of any medium as its defining characteristics rather than trying hide them, you get some new great shit. This was the first time I felt inspired since I saw Tuttle at the Whitney.

Wait, I should make that quotable, "Watching Team America was the first time I felt inspired since I saw Tuttle at the Whitney. Fuck Yeah!"
