With all due respect (which means "with no respect") "Jesus Swimming" is the perfect example of Curt Cloninger's "Contextual Art is Bullshit." Were this done by some newbie flash boy trying to impress us with his animation skills, it would be shite, but as it has all these cool words like NEEN and TELIC behind it, not to mention the obvious religious connotations, we (which means "me", just as "you" does) find it invigorating -- or at least infuriating -- intellectually.

Of course (which means no-one would possibly make this connection), it is not actually invigorating and infuriating because of its content, but because it is shite, and since it is done by an artist, it is art. And therefore, it isn't just shite; it is art. Would it still be art if it were just a throbbing logo? Yes, because Miltos did it. Does this matter? Incredibly.

And that is why it is important.

To summarize: Done by Miltos, it is art. Done by Joshua Davis, it would be a slap in the face. Done by Jesus, it would have shown a sense of humor.

And I mean this all with a heart swelling with love for Mr. Manetas, and an attempt to be witty (which means I am insecure) plus a desire to say what i truly feel and not just kiss his ass (which means I am secure), while still wanting him to like me (which may mean i am insecure, but probably just means I want people to like me).

But then, this isn't about me. Of course, everything is.
