TEP02 Conventions

NAMING CONVENTIONS
- Bisecting a line BL
- Dividing a line into a number of equal parts DL
- Bisecting an arc BA
- Bisecting an angle BN
- Dividing a circle into 12 equal divisions DC
- Finding the centre of an arc CA
- Finding the centre of a circle CC
- Drawing a perpendicular line from a point on a line PO
- Drawing a perpendicular line from a point not on a line PN
- Constructing a 60 degree angle CS
- Constructing a 30 degree angle CT
- Constructing a 90 degree angle CN
- Constructing an equilateral triangle CE
- Constructing a regular hexagon CH
You flash files' names should consist of the two letter code + the extension .fla for flash and .swf for compressed showckwave. Audio files should consist oif the two letter code + the number of the step + the proper extension (.aif or .wav). For instance, the Bisecting a Line flash file would be called BL.fla and the audio for the first step would be BL1.aif.
NUMBERING
- The initial state (what is on the screen when the construction is selected, before step 1 begins) is labeled step 0
- Steps in the print version that refer to entire other constructions are broken down into separate steps labeled a, b, c, etc. For example, suppose step 2 of your animation is written in the print version as "Bisect the line". Since "Bisecting a line" is a separate construction consisting of three steps, your construction would contain step 2a, step 2b and step 2c
TEXT
- The text for each step should begin with the step number followed by a colon, followed by the text. Use capitals and punctuation as shown in this example: "Step 2: Draw a second arc with the same radius and centre B."
- In steps that have parts a, b, c, etc., the text should also begin with the step number followed by a colon, followed by a short piece of text that describes the other construction. This should be followed by an em-dash (—) and the text for the specific part of the construction. For example, suppose step 2 of your animation is written in the print version as "Bisect the line". Then the text for step 2a in your animation would read as follows: "Step 2a: Bisect the line—Draw an arc with centre A and radius AB." You may have to edit the text slightly so it makes sense in your context.
- Labeled points are always written as capital letters. For example: point C or line AB.
- The word "Step", when referring to a specific step, is always written in with a capital S.
- All text should be in Times 13 Pt, with line spacing of 1
ANIMATION AND DRAWING
- The text for the step is the first thing to appear at the beginning of a step
- If a step involves drawing an arc, always animate the drawing in the following way:
- Draw a dot at the centre of the arc
- Animate the drawing of the arc
- Remove the dot
TOOLS
- Arcs and circles are drawn using a compass
- Lines are draw using a t-square or a set square
COLOUR
- Text is black
- Visible outlines (parts of the actual drawing you can see) are black
- Construction lines (things you use to build your drawing that are not part of the actual drawing) are blue (#0000FF)
- Centre lines (lines that indicate the centre of, for example, a circle) are blue (#0000FF) and dashed long-short-long
