Marine Studies Multimedia

Simulation

Once done with the NmInTheSouthPacific project, I'd like to work with marine studies to create an interactive simulation, perhaps for coastal zone management or the like. Father Bonato and Eileen tui recommended the followign contacts:

Below are some other project ideas

MS201: Marine Geology and Sedimentology

Put the notes for this course, as well as links to other resources, online. I propose using a Wiki to do this, so that Ms. Pohler can update her notes at will. She was turned down by Extension/ WEBCT. Also be sure to invite her to WebDesignForLecturers.

The Shore Ecology of Suva and South Viti Levu

I suggest same approach as above, namely Susan Pohler can use her wiki to put this information online. And added benefit is that we can also Dump the content into XHTML for distribution on disk. UPDATE: She will use WebCT with Extension for this project, after discussing with IT.

Media project: MS201-the Introduction to Ocean Resource Management.

Discussed a simulation of coastal erosion, analyzing the affects of 3 variables:

  1. Currents
  2. Vegetation
  3. Construction

We are thinking of showing a few case studies:

  1. Makaluva Island: the moving island: Chimneys in the sea

Susan Pohler wants to put together a Database of Pacific Coral. I suggested speaking to Wade Miage of JICA.
