Peter, Grace and Lee,
I'm emailing you to see if you would be interested in participating in a project.
Peter: because you seem to be working with castaway cultural artifacts of late, and because I am in love with the way you photograph them Grace: because really this is your idea: when you told me about late night trading of furniture from one person's backyard to another's Lee: because you are already moving stuff around, and doing remote instructions, so I thought this swap would be particularly relevant to your work.
With that, here is what I want to do:
I send you an item from Serbia. You take that item, and replace it with its EQUIVALENT ITEM in the US. You take a photo. You send me the EQUIVALENT ITEM you replaced. I replace that original item in Serbia with it and take a photo. Or vice versa.
For instance, I send a bar of soap (DECIJI SAPUM) from the Serbian supermarket. (Lee, you will find one in the package with your video) Lee, should he accept this, would go to the supermarket and replace one bar of soap of the many stacked on the shelves with mine. So, we end up with a DECIJI SAPUM in a sea of IVORY. He takes a beautiful photo, and mails me the IVORY soap. I then go to my local Serbian supermarket, and replace one of their DECIJI SAPUM with an IVORY. I take a photo. I compose it as closely as possible to the photo Lee took.
We pair them.
I see this as the first in what I see as an escalating series of exchanges.
So, let me know what you think. If you want to play, I will send you an item. Or you can send me one.
